Content Transformation (ML)
In shortUsing ML and generative AI to convert content between formats or adapt it for new platforms, e.g. video to text, or a post to a script.
Content transformation is MLforSEO’s name for using machine learning, especially generative AI, to turn one piece of content into others. It covers two jobs: modality conversion (text to video, audio to text) and enrichment or reformatting (summarising, translating, paraphrasing or adapting content for a new platform or audience). The aim is to give each strong idea a presence wherever your audience searches, from Google and YouTube to social platforms and AI chatbots.
How it works
The Introduction to ML for SEO course groups transformations into four pillars by input and output:
- Text-to-text: summarise, rewrite, translate or generate Q&A pairs, using LLMs and sequence-to-sequence models. Meta descriptions and FAQ drafts live here.
- Text-to-media: turn articles into video, images or voiceovers with diffusion and text-to-speech models.
- Media-to-media: restyle images, upscale video or re-crop a landscape video into a vertical clip.
- Media-to-text: transcribe podcasts and videos with speech recognition such as Whisper, or caption images with computer vision.
The framework that goes with it: research where your audience is at each touchpoint, choose the transformation types, map the process starting from the richest and most expensive format (a webinar or long video), automate parts of it with scripts or AI agents, and document review steps so quality and brand voice hold.
How it’s used in SEO and marketing
- Transcribing YouTube videos and hosting the transcript or a write-up on your site, linked from the video description.
- Cutting long videos into short clips and social posts.
- Drafting meta descriptions, alt text and captions at scale.
- Translating and localising content for new markets.
- Turning a blog post into a newsletter, a thread or a short explainer video.
Example
A worked chain from the course: long-form video, then transcript, then article, then short video, then social and forum posts, then audio. MLforSEO’s YouTube SEO guide applies the same idea after publishing: transcribe the video into a blog post, feature the video in related posts with VideoObject structured data, and promote it in communities.
Limitations and things to watch
- Scale cuts both ways. Google’s guidance on generative AI content warns that producing many pages without adding value can breach its scaled content abuse policy.
- Generated text and media can contain errors. Google says it is critical to fact-check and review AI-generated content, including metadata, before publishing.
- Keep a human in the loop for brand voice, accuracy and originality.
- Check rights and consent before transforming other people’s content, voices or likenesses.
- Start small with no-code tools, then move to programmatic pipelines once the workflow is proven.
